3. Sister Mary Annette
Another means of obtaining design knowledge was through books, and one book in particular kept surfacing over and over again in my online research. Written by the folks at Grey Seal Puppets, it was called The Foam Book, and taught a different method than the “studio quality muppet” method. This method, called nip and tuck, or something like that, involved taking whole sheets of mattress foam and rather than following a predefined pattern, allowed for more improvising.
There was a theatre in Flint, MI that was doing a production of Nunsense by Dan Goggin, and they needed a puppet for one of the actors, so I approached the director to see if he’d let me try my hand at it. The following pictures are the result of my labors. Sister Mary Annette!
