Chip the vocal arranger.
That’s right. I’m a published author. A great deal of thanks go to Jahnna Beecham and Malcolm Hillgartner, who brought me along on the ride of CHAPS! A great little musical with a nostalgic 1940’s-era Hollywood cowboy music theme.
Now … not that it was easy to aid Malcolm in arranging the vocals for CHAPS!, but we did have the benefit of trying to recapture the styles of the era, most of which was already there. It was simply a matter of trying to find them, and maybe jazz them up a tiny bit.

This past winter I did my second stint as vocal arranger, once again with Malcolm Hillgartner on the new musical Dogpark: The Musical. This project was a lot more challenging, and freeing, because the music was all original, written by Malcolm. It was done in the style of Gypsy Jazz Swing, with vocal styling similar to the Pied Pipers or Manhattan Transfer. Lots of fun.
